Citroen has decided to help transform Chalki Island into a green economy. Let's find out the different activities together.
It is not the first time that an automotive company has decided to start an eco-sustainable redevelopment project of a Greek island. It happened a while ago with Volkswagen and now it's Citroen time.
The French company has decided to invest in the Greek island of Chalki for a pioneering project with the aim of transforming the island into a form of sustainable mobility.
In fact, the island has become a laboratory for Europe for Citroen as regards zero-emission mobility. The latter Brand is in fact investing significant resources and in fact several models have come out that underline this support.
Ultimately, a process has been activated to transform the island into an economy that allows to reduce the environmental impact. Specifically, measures will be implemented to propose an offer of electric vehicles that will be driven solely by renewable electricity.
The goal is to allow all residents to have a 100% Green Island company, including businesses. Initially, as a first step, Citroen will be able to supply 6 electric vehicles to public authorities.
We are talking about two Citroen Ami donated respectively to the Coast Guard and the Police as well as to two Citroen e-C4s, a Space Tourer and an e-Jumpy.
As we can see, Citroen has a wide variety of possibilities, from the micro-mobility of Citroen Ami to the electrified vans of the Jumpy line.
Transforming a Greek island is quite simple but still serves as a test laboratory to subsequently develop a whole series of analyzes aimed at understanding the pros and cons.
Subsequently, this experimentation can be replicated on a large scale. Obviously everything is connected with the production of electricity from renewable sources. In fact, many detractors of sustainable mobility accuse the automotive world of pushing towards sustainable mobility by using fossil fuels for the production of electricity. In practice it is an own goal and a counterproductive aspect for sustainable mobility.
Instead, within this project we want to achieve a 100% green production, including electricity.
The plan dedicated to companies in fact would be very interesting to replicate on a large scale, obviously with an adequate expansion project of all the activities related to transport.
Citroen is very proud of this activity and has stated that it wants to make Chalki a smart island with ambitious projects carried out in accordance with the Greek government and the French embassy.
So next summer we could go, with all the limits of any covid, to this Greek island and be able to simply hear the sound of the sea without having to listen to the noise of cars, at least in the areas affected by these early stages of transformation of a 100% green island.
