Very often the most important document of our car is difficult to understand. We find a whole series of small codes that, if we are not practical, it is difficult to understand. But let's find out all the various aspects together in this article.

The circulation # booklet is probably the most important document of our car. In it we find a whole series of information ranging from the registration date, the fiscal horses, the displacement and so on.

First of all, it was developed according to a specific European Directive, namely 1999/37 / EC of 29/4/1999. This legislation was developed in order to allow all European law enforcement agencies to know how to read the vehicle registration document of any car registered in Europe immediately.

As we can see, the sheet is made up of two sides, one front and one back. In the front one we find a whole series of information and very precise details. In the rear one we find less complicated aspects and it is precisely the part of the sheet linked to the insertion of data for the change of ownership, results of revisions as well as to the legend of the data contained in the front.

As we can see, in the front part of the registration document, we find a whole series of letters, which each correspond to a different aspect of the car.

The letter A corresponds to the registration number, i.e. our vehicle license plate.

The letter B instead corresponds to the date of the first registration of the vehicle. If we bought the car used, we could then know when it was first registered.

The letter C allows you to know the surname or company name of the person to whom the car is registered. We will also find the address in the member state of registration on the date of issue of the document.

The letter D allows you to know the make of the vehicle, and in section D2 the type of vehicle.

At the letter E we will find the chassis number, a very important data to allow the correct identification of the car.

The letter F is attributed to the so-called maximum mass, so in the letter F1 we find the technically permissible maximum laden mass with the exception of motorcycles, while the maximum permissible laden mass of the vehicle in service in the member state of registration is found in F2.

The letter G, on the other hand, makes it possible to understand the mass of the vehicle in service with bodywork and equipped with the coupling device for towing vehicles of categories other than M1.

The letter I allows you to know the registration date to which the registration certificate refers.

The letter J expresses the vehicle category, the intended use and the bodywork.

The letter K expresses the type approval number of the vehicle, if one is available.

The letter L expresses the number of axles (which are usually almost always two).

The letter N is linked to the letter F, that is, it expresses the division between the axles of the technically permissible maximum laden mass.

The letter O allows to understand the technically permissible maximum towed mass with braked or unbraked trailer.

The letter P expresses the displacement of the vehicle, while the letter P2 expresses the maximum power expressed in KW. P3 instead expresses the type of fuel and P5 the numerical identification of the engine.

The letter Q is used only in motorcycles to express power / mass ratio in kw / kg.

The letter S1 expresses the number of seats including that of the driver, while the terms expressing the sound level with the vehicle stationary and the vehicle running are expressed by the letters U1 and U2.

The letters V express the entire level of pollution, namely:

(V.1) CO (g / km og / kWh)

(V.2) HC (g / km og / kWh)

(V.3) NOx (g / km og / kWh)

(V.5) particulate matter for diesel engines (g / km or g / kWh)

(V.7) CO2 (g / km)

This literally explains all the different aspects of the registration certificate.
