Unlike normal petrol and diesel cars, LPG cars need to replace the cylinder every few years. We understand when it must be changed, with which procedure, and obviously the associated costs.
GPL is an alternative form of fuel to petrol and diesel, which is really affordable. In fact, using an LPG car allows you to significantly save on the cost of ordinary management of a car. In fact, filling up with LPG is something very cheap and with just over 20 or € 25 you can travel hundreds of kilometers. Currently there are not many cars that have a system that runs on LPG as standard, but all those who have an LPG car would certainly never go back to traditional petrol or diesel.
However, the LPG cylinder must be replaced periodically, precisely every 10 years from the first installation.
For example, if we bought a car with an LPG cylinder in 2011, we have to change the cylinder in 2021, within the month of registration of the car.
If, on the other hand, we purchased a car in 2011 powered only by petrol and in 2012 we installed the LPG cylinder, then the cylinder replacement will have to be carried out in 2022.
But be careful, as it may also be necessary to replace other components that are part of the LPG system. In this case, in addition to replacing the LPG cylinder, it will be necessary and mandatory to carry out the hydraulic test again.
The law governing this aspect is ECE / ONU 67/01.
Replacing an LPG cylinder is something that must be done in a workmanlike manner by an authorized workshop. In fact, the testing of a technician is needed to be able to circulate in an optimal and regulated way on our roads. For this reason it will be necessary to apply to make the change using the TT 2019 model.
When replacing the cylinder, the authorized workshop must also fill in a series of documents designed to testify to the quality of the work and the approval of the installed system.
We would have to pay some postal bills of a fairly low amount and total about € 50
Once the bills have been paid, we can normally go to the civil motorization to book the test. In some cases we could also wait a few weeks or two or three months, obviously depending on the organizational situation and the number of bookings that are active.
Once this procedure has been passed, and once we have obtained the final testing by the civil motorization, we will be absolutely free to be able to circulate again with our LPG car.
Small clarification: between the moment in which our LPG cylinder is replaced and the actual and definitive testing of the LPG cylinder by the motorization, we can still circulate freely thanks to the pass that is issued to us, valid even if order, as we are absolutely in a situation of compliance.
As for the cost of replacing the cylinder, the cost is around € 500 , even if we can go to obtain savings with less expensive cylinders.
Our advice, however, is always to rely on expert hands who will be able to recommend the best cylinder for the precise vehicle model. To find out about all the workshops that are authorized to change the LPG cylinder, obviously look here on YouDriver, to find the one closest to you.
