With the arrival of summer and the month of August, Citroen has always been synonymous with trips to the completely open sky. The legendary Citroen Mehari is now an undisputed icon of carefree driving.
50 years and more have passed since the debut of one of the strangest and most peculiar cars that the automotive world has ever seen.
We are certainly not talking about a massive car with heavy weight, but far from it.
Starting from the legendary Mehari, that is a very light car up to the Concept Car Cactus M, Citroen has always stood out for particular and certainly original cars.
After 2 years of "forced closure", the desire for freedom during the summer is quite evident.
The mythical Mehari is therefore almost perfect and falls like a bean in the desire to escape these days.
Presented in 1968, it has exceeded half a century of age with something exceptional and absolutely unique.
In fact, it is impossible to remain unenchanted by the charm of this vehicle. A simple 2-door convertible that is possible to have in the two or four-seater configuration. The windshield was foldable for unlimited travel.
For those who wanted, the canvas roof was available in order to create an almost comfortable interior for the front passengers.
With a thousand combinations, it was possible to customize the car almost completely.
There weren't many configurations and versions in terms of colors ... but they all left their mark. We think of red passing from green to orange and beige.
Mehari has always been linked to concepts related to the environment, that is deserts. To characterize this small and exceptional car, Citroen engineers had identified deserts scattered around the world.
A fascination that has lasted over half a century is that it saw a prototype presented in 2015 that interpreted these aspects.
It is no coincidence that such a concept car was named Cactus M, where M was the beginning of Mehani. Technology has evolved as stylistic forms have evolved. All in all, however, if the trend has not changed the basic idea too much, much can be revised of what the Citroen Mehari was once.
Looking at it 6 years later, we clearly see how this car speaks Citroen.
A car obviously characterized by modern safety in terms of active and passive technology. However, the desire to be able to escape cannot change the desire to be free and unique.
We see it for example in the absence of the central roof, which can even accommodate a surfboard mounted lengthwise in the car. There are not many cars like these and it is probably also good for Mehari lovers.
