The German carmaker Volkswagen presented its new maxi SUV at the Shanghai show. Huge space availability guaranteed by the seven seats. Let's find out together.
As a first aspect, let's say right away that the car in question was created specifically for the Chinese market. In fact, looking at it you can see a certain linearity of design typical of the models destined for the Chinese market. In the Far East it is customary to have very bulky and truly ultra-spacious cars. Several car manufacturers have in the past created cars, extending those sold in every corner of the world, only to sell them within the Chinese market. Volkswagen has therefore created a fully electric 7-seater maxi SUV using the dedicated platform for electric cars. We are talking about the MEB platform that has already seen its use above the ID.3, in addition to the ID.4.
This car will be marketed only in China, as we have said, and will be presented with a double reputation. Some exterior details of the car also stand out. They will be called ID.6 Crozz and ID.6 X. The differences are minimal and we can find them basically at the level of details of the rear lights, and overall finishes of the car. This car will be produced in collaboration and partnership with Faw and SAIC , depending on the geographical area of collaboration.
The car will have 2 battery steps. The entry level will have a 58 kWh battery, with a consequent range of 436 km . To reach 588 km, it will be necessary to install a 77 kWh battery. There will also be the possibility of having a car with four-wheel drive and two engines for a maximum of 305 horsepower. In this way, the car will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km per hour in just 6.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 km per hour.
At the moment no information is given about the debut in Europe and America of this maxi SUV. What we currently know is that this car will be one of eight fully electric cars that Volkswagen will launch within the Chinese market within two years. This is not simply a differentiation of place, but it is the prerequisite for a very important goal on the part of the German group. By 2030, 50% of Volkswagen cars will be sold in China. If we stop for a moment and think about this data, it means that China is the main target of the Volkswagen world. It is certainly a huge country with enormous potential for development and also with a good capacity in terms of spending.
Surely this car, which is 4 meters long and 88 cm long , will also be able to establish itself in terms of comfort within the Chinese market. It is not even a light car as it weighs about 2200 kg, but thanks to the optimization of the batteries and aerodynamics, it still manages to have good results in terms of autonomy.
We will therefore see if the next news at Volkswagen will be dedicated exclusively to some micro sector or macro geographical area. All in all it is a shame not to see this fully electric maxi within our European market.
In fact, the competition is quite high in Europe and perhaps the positioning within the Chinese market could eventually be able to be congenial as a choice for the Volkswagen car manufacturer.
