The Formula 1 2021 championship started yesterday, with a result that, all in all, is not entrancing but is certainly a good omen for this year. Let's find out what happened together.
Let's face it right away, the Ferrari didn't make it to the podium at the Bahrain Grand Prix, but this shouldn't be a bad thing. In fact, we must always remember the situation in 2020 and the very heavy problems that the Prancing Horse car had far and wide, in almost all the circuits.
What we saw yesterday is however an encouraging figure, which bodes well for this year. However, let us always remember that the data and times for this year are valid only for 2021 and cannot be further refined next year. From 2022, in fact, cars will change completely, there will be new rules and everything that is currently being built will be upset. Despite this aspect, the progress of Ferrari # F1 is truly indisputable and it was Mattia Binotto himself, Ferrari Team Principal who praised the team, stating that this car can give emotions.
In fact, Binotto underlined how the car performed well and certainly better than the 2020 version. The first aspect to consider is that surely the first 2 places in the constructors' world championship have already been optioned by Mercedes and Red Bull. We must therefore consider the third step of the podium as a real goal for Ferrari.
Looking at the glorious history of the house of the prancing horse it would almost make you smile, but at a certain point you have to be concrete and observe how there are several car manufacturers that are unquestionably competitive. We are talking in particular about McLaren and other potential cars that could be interesting in terms of power and track management.
The two Ferrari drivers performed well yesterday, both the new entry Carlos Sainz and the Monegasque driver Leclerc. There seems to be a good feeling between the two, and this is certainly a positive aspect to push the prancing horse as high as possible in the Grand Prix. They will certainly have to be very loyal to each other in order to defend themselves against new competitors such as Aston Martin, Alpha Tauri and Alpine.
Leclerc also said how the car improved significantly from 2020 and was surprised by McLaren. From the data relating to the tests, it was seen how the foreign car was competitive, but it was not thought that it had a good race pace as it did in the end. However, Leclerc highlighted how yesterday's race is a good starting point to definitely implement.
As for the debut of Carlos Sainz, a very promising Spaniard, there are some good things to keep in his pocket. Aside from the mistake he made on the first lap when he struggled a bit with the clutch, the eighth place he got in Bahrain is something as good as a Ferrari debut.
We must always consider the fact that the drivers do not know the cars perfectly in the first kilometers of their experience. The sensations, however, are positive and considering also the fact of having dueled with drivers who knew their cars perfectly, it is something very encouraging.
Carlos Sainz himself said he chose a prudent path precisely to have more experience in the next races. Driving a Formula 1 car and winning the first Grand Prix, I think it's something unthinkable for anyone.
We therefore remain positive with the hope of seeing a Ferrari on the podium as soon as possible alongside the eternal Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas.
