The car that will try to confirm itself once again as driver world champion and team world champion was presented for the first time yesterday.
Here finally has arrived the day we have all been waiting for. After the introductions of several # F1 cars, the queen of the last few years has finally arrived. We are talking about the # Mercedes W12, the model declined for this 2021.
It's only been 12 weeks, or 3 months since the last Grand Prix of last season.
It has been a busy winter for Mercedes which has tried to make improvements on some aspects that are still a bit better, although it is at the highest levels.
Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, is really happy with what he has done. During the presentation he commended the team and the passion of the technicians who have carried out an ambitious project.
2021 brings some changes to the regulations that, according to Toto Wolff, could affect the competitiveness of Mercedes in addition of course to the cost limits.
In fact, we have seen in recent weeks how there were incentives for all the teams that have positioned themselves behind the winner, in terms of hours inside the wind tunnel. Mercedes is in fact the team that has received the fewest hours exercisable inside the wind tunnel. This choice by the International Automotive Federation was dictated by the need to bring greater competitiveness to the other Formula 1 teams.
The car, however, has not been completely revolutionized. It takes another year before we see completely different cars as new regulations arrive from 2022.
As for the 2021 version, it is the first Mercedes car to use the “ E performance ” name. This name is intended to underline the close collaboration with the internal division of Mercedes # AMG . In the coming months and years, the Eperformance badge will be found above the Mercedes AMG high-performance cars.
This collaboration is also reviewed in terms of livery. The AMG brand currently replaces the star motif on the bonnet. In addition to the black, we note the green of the partner Petronas positioned on the front and rear fenders, on the mirrors, on the nose, as well as the green and silver parallel stripes that are positioned on the sides of the car and which symbolize the partnership between Mercedes and Petronas. To complete the coloring we also find the Ineos burgundy , which characterizes the inside of the end plates of the front wing but also of the airbox (the air intake above the pilot's head).
We will see how the # Hamilton and Bottas drivers will be able to bring these cars to success and eventually defend themselves from the other contenders, first of all Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and other car manufacturers.
It will be an interesting 2021 also in terms of drivers, with Vettel and that begins a new adventure within the automotive world of Formula 1 and with the arrival of the son of the legendary Michael Schumacher, at a highly anticipated test bench already from the first Grand Prix.
