With the arrival of the new CEO De Meo, Renault develops a new plan to relaunch itself, after the problems of the last period and the synergies that have broken with the Far East.
Those have been difficult months, those spent by Renault. The arrival of DeMeo, in a very troubled period like the current one due to the coronavirus pandemic, was very much a panacea for the Renault production sites. De Meo is in fact an international manager capable of having a cold and analytical vision of the French world in order to revolutionize and try to improve the situation of the transalpine group, after the scandals of the last period.
A few hours ago, Renault's press conference was news, which also wanted evidence of the brand revolution. Going to play on the brand name and the word Revolution, the event was renamed Renaulution .
And it will be a real revolution as several models that we currently know could be eliminated to give more space to the models that have greater profitability. Indeed, De Meo's philosophy is not to go and produce the largest number of cars possible, but rather to create the right number of cars with the greatest profitability.
In fact, according to the Italian CEO, it makes no sense to create millions and millions of vehicles whose profitability is truly minimal. Rather, it is better to focus on the most developed segments such as SUVs, optimizing the production process and thus maximizing profits on the single vehicle. For this reason, all production lines and vehicles that are not optimizing in terms of profitability will be eliminated.
In addition to this there will be an important energy transition strategy, which has already begun and which now seems irreversible. The aim is to propose by 2025 the offer of the most sustainable products in Europe for the price range comparable to Renault.
A fundamental aspect will also be the integration between the cars and the safety of the latter within a Renault ecosystem. In fact, it will be developed on software , a real generational leap as regards automotive connectivity. In this way it will be possible to optimize the life span of a car thanks to remote updates.
To give a simple example, it is as if the cars were simple smartphones. In fact, very often we are asked by various smartphone manufacturers through notifications, to periodically update the product. This software update is necessary in order to optimize the safety of the vehicle, stabilize the product and eliminate any problems in daily use. The cars will then be equated to a normal smartphone and will be able to benefit from digital updates by simply clicking on the console, without having to go to the dealership or workshop.
In terms of engines, in addition to the electric Renault, it also relies heavily on hydrogen. On this aspect, thanks to the "Refactory" project, the evaluation of over 100 thousand cars used in new electric or hydrogen vehicles will be considered.
At the end of it all, the project foresees 14 new cars by 2025, of which 7 are fully electric. The fully electric Renault 5 prototype was also presented, which could become a reality in the coming years.
To make room for new technologies and new models, it seems that some cars and some lines currently in production, such as large minivans, could be eliminated or undergo a drastic downsizing within the Renault world.
